2015<br > 3rd World Forum on Local Economic Development, Torino

The 3rd World Forum on Local  Economic Development (LED), organized by the Municipality and the Metropolitan City of Turin, the global network of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and its Working  Group  on  LED,  through the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI), the Organization of Regions United (ORU FOGAR), the Brazilian Service of Support for Micro and Small Enterprises (SEBRAE), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will be celebrated on 13 th -16 th October 2015 in Turin (Italy).

In September 2015, in occasion of the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit, the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be adopted defining the development framework of the next 15 years.The 3rd World Forum on LED will immediately follow this Summit, providing a timely opportunity to explore experiences and practices that can further present LED as a means for implementing the new development agenda at the local level.

OBJECTIVES:

- To establish a system for exchanging experiences and data of LED.

- To consider LED as a means to address Post-2015 Development Agenda Challenges.

- To raise awareness among governments so they adopt policies that facilitate the implementation of LED models.

- To build partnerships for a greater impact on the global agenda through a joint roadmap.

- To identify models and good practices of successful LED-based on local and territorial policies.

- To advance the global dialogue of LED through the participation and sharing of experiences and views of international stakeholders.

THE ROLE OF “RURAL TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT WITH CULTUTAR IDENTITY” PROGRAM (RTD-CI) IMPLEMENTED BY THE LATIN-AMERICAN CENTER FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT (RIMISP)

The Program RTD-IC/RIMISP is a co-organizing partner of the Third World Forum of Local Economic Development and, as such, will organize a set of activities taking place in the framework of the Forum (before and during) with the objective of: “scaling up new processes from good practices with a territorial base”. The planned activities provide a training and exchange program whose core theme is “Territorial Development with Cultural Identity as a means for an innovative economy”.

In particular, the implemented activities will be:

1) A TERRITORIAL ROUTE in the Piedmont Region (Italia) on 10th and 11th October. The route provides a learning pathway based upon active exchange between public and private actors involved in territorial development processes and adding value to local products. The participants will also discover a winegrowing area, “cultural landscape”, UNESCO World Heritage through a guided visit to innovative productive and entrepreneurial experience.

2) An INNOVATION AND TRAINING LABORATORY during which the following activities will be set up: i) active exchange between Piedmont and international innovative entrepreneurs; ii) training panel with the participation of research centers and international universities; iii) visit to public and private sectors experiences, driving cultural and Territorial Development processes.

3) A PANEL jointly organized together with Florence University – Department of Economics and Business Sciences (DISEI/UNIFI): “Creativity, innovation and sustainability: understanding and enhancing urban-rural linkages through a territorial development with cultural identity”.

 

4) An EXHIBITION AREA within the Forum that provides a daily interactive program of tasting, presentations, debates and meeting between actors from Latin America and other countries.

5) A visit to EXPO Milano 2015 “Feeding the planet, Energy for Life” in which will take place a final conference at the Slow Food’s Theater within the “Biodiversity” pavilion.

Turin – On 14th October 2015 Dr. Jean Paul La Coste, Ford Foundation Representative for the Andean Region and the Southern Cone, participated as a panelist in the panel “Creativity, Innovation and sustainability: understanding and enhancing urban-rural linkages through a territorial development with cultural identity” organized by the Territorial Development with Cultural Identity Program of the Latin American Centre for Rural Development (RIMISP) and the University of Florence - Department of Economics and Business Sciences (DISEI/UNIFI).

ITALY - THE PRE-FORUM PROGRAM IN THE ITALIAN PRESS

Turin - National and local press have massively spread the program of activities realized in the framework of the Third Forum of Local Economic Development (LED) publishing informative sessions that explore the experiences of enterprises that have committed to the Territorial Development with Cultural Identity Program of RIMISP – Latin American Centre for Rural Development - in carrying out the Territorial Route giving space and voice to local hosts.

ITALY – THE TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT WITH CULTURAL IDENTITY STEPS INTO THE POST-FORUM PHASE

The colateral activities organized by the Territorial Development with Cultural Identity of the Latinamerican Center for Rural Development (RIMISP) within the Third World Forum on Local Economic Development ended on Saturday 17th of October of 2015. A delegation composed by 60 people coming from 14 Latinamerican and European countries together with local partners joined these activities whose main thematics was: Territorial development with cultural identity: an engine for an innovative economy.

CHILE/ITALY - FAMILY FARMING HAS ITS WEEK IN THE EXPO MILANO AND IT WILL BE PART OF THE WORLD FORUM OF TORINO, WHERE RIMISP IT'S A CO-ORGANIZER

Milan – Chile's Family Agriculture Week, which is being carrying out in the Chilean Pavilion in EXPO Milano, features an outstanding delegation headed by the Agriculture Minister, Carlos Furche; INDAP Director, Octavio Sotomayor; and 11 family farmer, including producers that recently participated as local master in the Territorial Laboratory organized by RIMISP and the Center of Education and Tecnology Chiloé (CET), in the Chiloé Arquipelago, as Andrea Ximena Currumilla Curiñan, indigenous leader of the Punta Chilén Cooperative and graduate in the Territorial Development with Cultural Identity Diploma.

MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY OF GRADUATES FROM THE RTD-CI DIPLOMAS TALK ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE IN THE COURSE ORGANIZED BY ITC-ILO, RIMISP AND SLOW FOOD

Claudia Oviedo (Mexico) and Giacomo Bassilio (Peru), both graduated from Diplomas in Territorial Development with Cultural Identity organized by the Latin American Center for Rural Development (RIMISP) and renowned Latin American universities, participated in the training course “Unchaining Rural Supply Chains: Global Trends and Local Innovations”. The initiative of education, organized by the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO), RIMISP through its Program of Rural Territorial Development with Cultural Identity (RTD-CI) and Slow Food took place between May 19th and May 22nd 2015 in the city of Torino, Italy.

ITALY – TRAINING COURSE: “UNCHAINING RURAL SUPPLY CHAINS: GLOBAL TRENDS AND LOCAL INNOVATIONS” PROMOTED AS A PREPARATORY ACTIVITY FOR THE THIRD WORLD FORUM ON LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Turin - The training course, “Unchaining Rural Supply Chains: Global Trends and Local Innovations”, was held in Turin from May 19th to May 22nd in 2015. The training course was organized by the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO), in collaboration with the Rural Territorial Development with Cultural Identity Program (RTD-CI) of the Latin American Center for Rural Development (RIMISP)Slow Food, and co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic. The course represents one of the preparatory activities for the Third World Forum on Local Economic Development, which will be held from October 13th until the 16th, 2015 in Turin. The Program RTD-CI/RIMISP is a co-organizing partner of the forum.

Sixteen global participants attended the course, representing 11 countries: Albania, Brazil, Ecuador, Italy, Jordan, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Thailand, Tanzania and Uganda. Of the sixteen participants, two are members of the Community of Graduates of the Diploma in Territorial Development with Cultural Identity.

ECUADOR - LATIN AMERICAN AND THE CARIBBEAN FORUM ON TERRITORIAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Quito - The Rural Territorial Development with Cultural Identity Program (RTD-CI) of the Latin american Center for Rural Development (RIMISP) participated in the Latin American and Caribbean Forum on Territorial Economic Development which took place between May 18th and 19th 2015 in Quito, Ecuador.

The Forum main aim was to facilitate the dialogue and exchange among local, national and international actors about local economic development and the challenges which the region of Latin America and the Caribbean are currently facing. It represented a key preparatory event for the Third World Forum on Local Economic Development taking place in Turin between October 13th and 16th.

SPAIN - PROGRESS IN THE ORGANIZATION OF THE THIRD WORLD FORUM ON LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Seville – Between the 28 and 29 of April the Rural Territorial Development with Cultural Identity Program (RTD-CI/RIMISP) joined the Fourth Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Third World Forum of Local Economic Development which was held in Seville as part of the Forum preparatory process. The meeting was hosted by FAMSI (Fondo Andaluz de Municipios para la Solidaridad Internacional) and its main aim was to establish the Forum strategic focus and its three thematic lines which will be faced and debated alongside the four days of the event.

ITALY – COOPERATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN RTD-CI/RIMISP AND THE ASSOCIATION “CITTÀ DEL BIO” WITHIN THE THIRD WORLD FORUM OF LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

ITALY - FORMALIZATION OF THE RTD-CI/RIMISP AS A CO-ORGANIZING PARTNER OF THE THIRD WORLD FORUM OF LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

 

Turin - On April 3rd 2015, the Executive Committee of the Third World Forum of Local Economic Development (LED) – represented by the City of Turin, the Metropolitan City of Turin, the global network of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), the Organization of Regions United (ORU FOGAR), the Brazilian Service of Support for Micro and Small Enterprises (SEBRAE), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/ART Initiative- formalized the role of the Rural Territorial Development with Cultural Identity Program (RTD-CI) of the Latinamerican Center for Rural Development (RIMISP) as co-organizing partner of the event. The Third World Forum of LED will be held in Turin from the 13 to the 16th of October, 2015. 
 
On January 12, 2015, the RTD-CI Program of RIMISP formally expressed interest in participating in the Third World Forum of LED through the presentation of a proposal, which calls for the organization of a set of training and exchange activities whose main theme is “Territorial development with cultural identity: a motor for an innovative economy".

CHILE - THE CHILEAN INSTITUTE FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT (INDAP), THE RURAL TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT WITH CULTURAL IDENTITY PROGRAM (RTD-CI/RIMISP) AND EATALY ON A JOINT MISSION IN CHILE

Santiago de Chile - The Chilean Institute for Agricultural Development (INDAP) and the Rural Territorial Development with Cultural Identity Program (RTD-CI/RIMISP) jointly organized a mission lasting from Monday, March 16th, until Friday March 20th. The mission sees the participation of the Deputy National Director of INDAP, Ricardo Vial, his Principal Adviser Héctor Bravo, the RTD-CI Program Coordinator, Claudia Ranaboldo and the EATALY agronomist and board member Valter Valle. During the mission a space was dedicated at the promotion of the Third World Forum of Local Economic Development that will held in Turin from the 13 to the 16th of October, 2015 in conjunction and synergy with EXPO Milano 2015 and will see the participation of the RTD-IC Program through the organization of activities (visit study, panels, seminars) related to the Rural Territorial Development  with Cultural Identity theme in the framework of the Forum.
