I come from the city of Valparaiso, where for many years there has been talk of creative economy. That same city that has many problems that everyone knows: fires, unemployment, garbage are a symbol of it. How do you insert the vision of creative economy and dialogue with the city that we live on a daily basis?

In recent debates the discussion on cultural policies has been very focused on institutionality, management, budgets, infrastructures, competencies or positions, undoubtedly important issues, but which demonstrate the distant approach to culture as a relevant field for the social life.

The discussion of the relationship between culture and economy is not a topic anymore. Not just because the numbers of economic impact of the cultural, creative and patrimonial industry, or for the current cultural politic of strengthening the creative economy on the Chilean government agenda and other countries of the region, but specially because more and more people produce, mobilize and visibilize cultural and artistic contents – people, communities, organizations and institutions – and gather on their "doings" a view of integrality and linking between the creative and productive capacity, with a spirit of “living” of what we know and want to do.

The recognition and valuing of the territorial identities it’s a national process that from different actors and themes can become in a strategy to tackle the big inequalities in economics, social, political, gender and ethnic topics, that derive in inequality, exclusion and lack of opportunities. Here is where the notion of culture as a “resource” or “asset” would work in the territories in the economic dimension and in the dimension of culture and heritage, as a clear expression of the evolution of the binomial of culture and development.
