The GIAHS (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems) FAO initiative has come a long way in Chiloé, however today is at a crossroads towards which the scope, the projections and the contributions that this experience can make, will play an important role to the development of the archipelago, of the country and other territories in Latin America. The actors involved in the local implementation of Chiloé GIAHS had to overcome a nonexempt barriers and challenges road, but as a result, achievements and significant learnings have been obtained. Based on this experience, Chiloé GIAHS faces the opportunity to be included more clearly and decisively in both national and regional public agenda.
